Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that their 6-1 humiliation at Stoke City has shown the work that needs to be carried out at the club this summer.

The Reds’ disappointing season came to an end yesterday with a humiliating loss at the Britannia Stadium and they finished sixth in the league table behind Tottenham Hotspur.

The club’s transfer business after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer has come under scrutiny but they will be under more pressure to get their house in order this time around after a disappointing campaign.

Rodgers admits that the summer was always going to be crucial for Liverpool but feels yesterday’s humiliation just showed the enormity of the task that needs to be carried out during the transfer window.

He conceded that Liverpool were shambolic at Stoke but he also stressed that the club are aware of what to do going forward to get better next season.

“It was always going to be a big summer but today’s result certainly ratified that”, Rodgers told the BBC.

“We were very poor but we understand the job that’s ahead and that we have to be much better going forward.”
