Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey has admitted that it will be difficult for him to keep Liverpool-linked striker Charlie Austin at Loftus Road, but the Hoops will make every effort to do so.

The 25-year-old was one of the brightest spots of an otherwise lacklustre season for Ramsey's team, having scored a total of 18 goals in 36 appearances and also having provided his team-mates with seven assists.

Austin was also named in the England squad for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland on 7th June followed by a Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia on 14th June.

Ramsey is apprehensive about the future of his striker, insisting that it will be difficult for him to retain him as a player of his calibre will obviously want to stay in the Premier League.

QPR will however make an effort to keep hold of the player, the 53-year-old reveals, because Austin is one player that the club will need as they look to hit the ground running from the beginning of the Championship season next year.

"I would imagine anybody who has scored those goals and is going to the England camp would not be looking elsewhere other than to be playing in the Premier League", Ramsey was quoted as saying by ITV.

"He'll want to play higher [than the Championship] but we'll make every effort to keep him because he's somebody that we need.

"It's very difficult to buy strikers of that pedigree to come straight into your team and starting scoring immediately.

"That's what we're going to need because we must hit the ground running."

Premier League giants Liverpool, who are on the lookout for a new striker this summer to add depth to their attacking line-up, have been linked with making a move to sign Austin.
