Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has been left out of Serbia's European Under-21 Championship squad to allow him to concentrate on senior national team duty.

Markovic had been a potential inclusion in the Serbia squad for the Czech Republic, but will instead link up with the senior side for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Denmark.

The same is also true for Matija Nastasic and Aleksandar Mitrovic, who will also be required for senior team duty and as such will not be in the Under-21 squad.

Serbia Under-21 coach Mladen Dodic says that all three were ready to head to the Czech Republic if required.

"I spoke with them and they were ready to play", the Serbia coach told UEFA.

"But all three of them must spend the next two weeks with the seniors for the friendly against Azerbaijan and UEFA Euro 2016 Group I match in Denmark and can not be with us before the start of the tournament.

"In that case, and as they are tired after a long season, I decided to leave them out of this Championship."

Markovic linked up with Liverpool from Portuguese giants Benfica for an estimated fee of around £20m.

The winger will now have a break in the summer to recharge his batteries for next season instead of taking part in a potentially demanding European Under-21 Championship.
