Former England captain Alan Shearer has acknowledged that Arsenal played well in their 4-0 FA Cup final win over Aston Villa today, but insisted their current team are still not good enough to win the Premier League title.

Goals from Theo Walcott (40th minute), Alexis Sanchez (50th minute), Per Mertesacker (62nd minute) and Olivier Giroud (90th minute) proved too much for Aston Villa to cope with as they crumbled on the big stage.

Arsenal collected their second consecutive FA Cup and 12th overall, meaning no club have won the trophy as many times as the Gunners.

Several Arsenal players quickly turned their attention towards challenging for the Premier League title after the match, but for Shearer they still need additions to make their dreams a reality.

"The league table doesn't lie – they were 12 points behind Chelsea", Shearer said on the BBC.

"With this current team, I don't believe they can win the Premier League.

"With a couple of additions, two or three, then I believe they can."

However, the former Newcastle striker was still willing to praise the Gunners for their performance in the FA Cup final, while insisting that his concerns before the kick off were valid.

He added: "I asked the question before the game about this squad not always delivering when the pressure is on. Even Arsene Wenger must have believed that because he mentioned it in his post-match interview, saying 'we were able to handle the pressure'. I asked if they could perform on the big stage and they did it brilliantly today."
