Kenneth Otigba has told Heerenveen that he wants to be guaranteed more first team football next season, amid talk of a potential move to Celtic.

The young defender has been tipped for a bright future in the game, but this season his playing time suffered with Heerenveen preferring to hand Jerry St. Juste minutes on the pitch at his expense.

Otigba said earlier this year that he felt confidence in his ability was lacking on the part of the club. He says he still has those views and while he is not actively planning to leave, talk of interest from Scottish champions Celtic looms large.

The 22-year-old told the Leeuwarder Courant: "The words I spoke in April are perhaps also true. But I decided that I just have to deal with the things I have an influence over and in that sense I have learned.

"I need to play more next season. That's what I should be doing", Otigba continued.

"I want to stay here. That is, if I can play a lot."

Otigba was asked whether, if that is not the case, Celtic is an option. However, he says their interest is not firm enough yet.

"Actually, the interest is not concrete, so I don't think so. So I'm just keeping myself busy working."

Born in Nigeria, the young centre-back spent several years in Hungary and has played for the country at Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Otigba joined Heerenveen's youth ranks in 2008 and broke through to the club's first team in 2012.
