Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has rubbished speculation that Liverpool have been in touch over striker Alexandre Lacazette, doubting the Reds' ability to afford the player.

Lacazette scored 27 goals in Ligue 1 this season and won the league's best player award, succeeding Paris Saint-Germain's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who took home the accolade in 2013 and 2014.

The France international is hot property in the transfer market at present, but Aulas insists Liverpool have not been in touch about signing him, while he doubts their ability to afford the striker, especially without Champions League football.

On Twitter, in reply to a report about Liverpool having made contact over Lacazette, Aulas wrote: "Your information is false.

"Liverpool have not called and which European Cup do they play in? They have neither the means [to afford Lacazette] nor the interest", the Lyon supremo added.

Aulas is desperate to keep hold of Lacazette and Lyon do have Champions League football to offer the striker following a finish of second in Ligue 1 this season.

Liverpool meanwhile are looking to add strikers to their squad after struggling to score goals this term, something which contributed towards a fall from second last season to sixth this term. The Reds will play in the Europa League in 2015/16.
