Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has vetoed Inter Milan’s move for Moroccan defender Medhi Benatia.

Following his big money move from Roma to Bayern Munich last summer, the 28-year-old defender has struggled with form and injuries and made just 15 Bundesliga appearances in his first season at the Allianz Arena.

With Benatia seemingly struggling to settle down at Bayern Munich, Inter Milan lodged an enquiry with Bayern Munich for the defender and were hoping to take him back to Italy this summer.

There was also speculation that Bayern Munich were ready to entertain an offer of around €22m for the player, but it is emerging that the German champions are not ready to sell the defender this summer.

According to German magazine Kicker, club CEO Rummenigge has personally vetoed any attempts by Inter to prise Benatia away from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The 59-year-old is not ready to give up on Benatia after just one season and is keen to provide more time to a player who arrived at the club for a hefty transfer fee of €28m last summer.

Inter are said to be in the market for defenders and will have to focus their attention towards other targets as Benatia is not expected to leave the Bavarians.
