Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his delight with the way the Lilywhites’ post-season tour has turned out, especially as injuries were avoided.

Pochettino’s men defeated a Malaysia XI 2-1 before embarking to Australia, where they defeated Sydney FC 1-0 and thereby concluded their two-match long post-season tour.

Spurs ended their league campaign in fifth and have directly qualified for the Europa League as a result. They also made it to the final of the League Cup, but eventually came up short against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and ended as runners-up.

Pochettino has said that his team have relished their post-season sojourn and have enjoyed playing in front of their global fanbase.

“The fans have been incredible”, he told his club’s site.

“I give congratulations to the club, the organisation was fantastic and we’ve enjoyed this tour a lot.

“It’s so far away from England but the fans are here to support us. They are amazing.

“There were lots of positives. To see us play in front of over 70,000 in Sydney was amazing and a great experience for the younger players. That was fantastic.”

Pochettino is glad that none of his players faced any injury setbacks as they head away for their holidays.

The north London outfit will look to improve upon their league finish and stake a claim in the Champions League next season.

“We’ve had no injuries, we finished at a good level and I’m very happy.

“Now it’s time for holidays and a rest and we will start pre-season in the most positive way.”
