Celtic striker Amido Balde has chosen to represent the country of his birth, Guinea-Bissau, at international level.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on loan at Israeli outfit Hapoel Tel Aviv from Celtic, has previously turned out for Portugal on the international scene.

Indeed, Balde, a product of Sporting Lisbon's esteemed youth academy, has represented Portugal at both Under-19 and Under-20 level.

But now he feels that playing for African country Guinea-Bissau is the right move.

"At this moment I feel fit and I confirm that I will now play for the national team of Guinea-Bissau", he told Lusa.

"I feel confident, in my body and soul. I have been invited on other occasions, but I did not go. Now I can say that I've decided to play for Guinea-Bissau."

Guinea-Bissau are coached by former Sporting Lisbon left-back Paulo Torres and are next in action later this month away against Zambia in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Balde was snapped up by Celtic from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes, but struggled to make the impact expected by the Scottish champions.

He was loaned to Belgian side Waasland-Beveren last year before then heading to Israel for a loan stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv at the start of this year.
