Former Leeds United star Max Gradel says if he leaves Saint-Etienne this summer it will not be because he has wanted to move, although he does accept he is in demand.

Gradel joined Les Verts from Leeds in 2011 and has flourished in French football. The Ivorian scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 this season, making a number of clubs sit up and take notice and helping Saint-Etienne to finish fifth in the process.

He has been critical of what he sees as a lack of ambition at the club and it has been suggested he could be sold, with Saint-Etienne willing to deal at the right price.

But Gradel says if he does go it will not be because he has forced an exit.

He told Jeune Afrique: "I can tell you one thing.

"If I have to leave Saint-Etienne this summer, it won't be because that's what I have wanted.

"But if it does happen, it will need to be an offer that interests me and one which helps my team succeed."

Gradel, who has had a €10m asking price slapped on his head by Saint-Etienne, admits that he is well aware a number of clubs want to sign him.

"I just know that clubs are interested in me, from France, England and Germany."
