Midfielder Moussa Dembele is delighted that he still retains the confidence of Belgium coach Marc Wilmots, despite featuring little at Tottenham Hotspur, where he believes he gets little credit.

Dembele has been in and out of the first team at Spurs under manager Mauricio Pochettino, completing 90 minutes of Premier League action in just two games this season.

Despite the inconsistent nature of his game time, the midfielder continues to be called up by Belgium coach Marc Wilmots – and for that he is happy.

"In itself [being a backup player with Belgium] is okay with me", he told Sporza.

"Even though I do not play much at Tottenham, I am glad the coach continues to give me confidence", the Spurs man continued.

"What has the coach said to me? He has known me for a few years and he hasn't had to say much. It's not the first time that someone is in the squad who is not playing so much for his club. I'm glad that is the case."

Dembele ended the season with 26 Premier League appearances under his belt for Spurs, but believes he gets little credit for his efforts.

Nevertheless, the former Fulham man is staying positive and insists he still retains confidence in his own ability.

"I've played so few minutes, it's a disappointment to me. At one point I showed what I've got and I thought I took my chance, but quite quickly again I fell out of the team.

"Do I get little credit at Tottenham? Yes, I have that feeling at times, but it's ultimately down to me. I have to stay positive.

"I'm still confident."

Dembele is under contract with Spurs until the summer of 2017. It remains to be seen whether he will look for the exit door at White Hart Lane.
