Sol Bamba is staying at Leeds United and has agreed to a two-year deal with the Yorkshire giants.

The centre-back was on loan at Leeds from Italian outfit Palermo during the second half of the season and instantly impressed, carving out a regular spot in the heart of the Whites' defence.

But Leeds had trouble agreeing a permanent deal with Bamba, with concerns over the salary on offer causing the defender to think twice.

Amid interest from Reading though, Leeds have done a deal.

Earlier today, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Bamba spoke via phone with Nicola Salerno, a call during which the remaining issues between the two parties were ironed out. Salerno was reported to have resigned as Leeds sporting director recently, but appears to still have the ear and faith of owner Massimo Cellino.

Bamba agreed to a two-year contract at Elland Road and will now sign the deal electronically, as he is currently on holiday.

Leeds acted quickly after Championship rivals Reading contacted Palermo to register their interest in Bamba.

However, Leeds had first refusal on the defender as part of their loan agreement with Palermo and Bamba was keen to remain in Yorkshire, having settled in the area.
