Leeds United have been offered encouragement in their interest in former AC Milan winger Urby Emanuelson, who feels he needs a fresh start next season.

Emanuelson is of interest to Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who will no doubt listen with interest as the 28-year-old writes off continuing his career in Italy.

The winger joined Roma last summer, but struggled to make his mark at the Giallorossi and linked up with Atalanta in the winter window.

But he managed just nine appearances for Atalanta, spending the majority of his time warming the bench.

Now the former AC Milan star wants out of Italy.

In words that will be music to the ears of Emanuelson's suitors outside Italy, he told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: "I'm a little bit done with Italy."

He also addressed his current transfer status and what he is looking for his future club to offer him next season.

"I'm a free transfer", the winger revealed.

"With Roma there was an appointment made after evaluating the loan period, but I honestly do not see the sense. I know the outcome anyway. I have not heard from Roma, but it is not wise to return to AS Roma.

"I know where I stand, that helps. I need a fresh environment to regain the good feelings."

Emanuelson is also desperate to show just why he was so highly rated at Ajax and earned a move to AC Milan.

But to do that he must play.

"I am a footballer and I have been eager to show that I did not play at Ajax and AC Milan for nothing. I refuse to believe that I cannot do that."
