Juventus have agreed in principle with Atletico Madrid to acquire Mario Mandzukic this summer, according to Turin-based daily Tuttosport.

The Old Lady enjoyed a successful campaign this season, having acquired a double of the Coppa Italia and the Serie A title. They also made it to the final of the Champions League, but lost to Barcelona in the summit clash.

Forward Carlos Tevez played a pivotal role in Juventus’ successful campaign with his 29 goals in all competitions.

However, the Italian champions are grappling with the possibility of losing the Argentine marksman and see Mandzukic as a viable alternative to lead their forward line.

The Croatia international landed at the Vicente Calderon last summer from Bayern Munich and contributed 12 goals to Los Rojiblancos’ campaign.

However, Diego Simeone recently expressed his reservations about the Croatian’s time at the club.

They are close to signing Luciano Vietto from Villarreal and are also interested in prising away Tevez from the Bianconeri.

Atletico Madrid are expected to charge in the range of €22m to €23m for the transfer of Mandzukic.
