Chelsea are keen on Stoke City custodian Asmir Begovic as a back-up for first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, with an exit for veteran Petr Cech looming large, according to the Press Association.

Cech, who has been at the centre of much speculation of late, has been strongly linked with Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his goalkeeping options.

Now Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also showing keen interest on having Begovic in his side to provide competition to young Courtois, who was in good form for the league champions last season.

Begovic has been one of Stoke's most prized possession since his switch to the Britannia Stadium in 2010.

The 27-year-old has managed an overall 173 appearances for the Potters since then with 50 clean sheets. He also has managed to score a goal for his team.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes has repeatedly stressed his desire to keep hold of Begovic with clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United having been credited with being keen on the former Portsmouth man.

Begovic's contract with Stoke comes to an end in June next year and he is yet to sign a new deal with the club.

The newly crowned Premier League champions have also been linked with a number of other players as well with Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao being considered as an option.
