Premier League new boys Watford have contacted Tottenham Hotspur about snapping up Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, according to Sky Italia.

Watford, owned by the Italian Pozzo family, are preparing for a top flight campaign after winning promotion from the Championship last season.

The Hornets are aiming to draft in a number of reinforcements to improve their chances of avoiding an instant drop back into the second tier.

And Spurs midfielder Paulinho has fallen onto their radar, with Watford having made contact with the White Hart Lane outfit over snapping him up.

The 26-year-old, who Tottenham signed from Brazilian giants Corinthians in 2013, struggled to convince manager Mauricio Pochettino of his qualities last season.

As a result the Brazilian was restricted to just 15 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs last season.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will be open to parting with Paulinho and whether the player will be open to joining Watford, even if he may receive more first team opportunities.
