Nicola Salerno is set to rebound from leaving Leeds United by becoming Watford's new sporting director, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia.

Earlier today Salerno terminated his contract with Leeds, which had a further year to run. Before he exited Elland Road, the Italian deal-maker concluded the Whites' permanent purchase of centre-back Sol Bamba.

The sporting director's talents are in demand and he is poised to head to Watford, a club owned by the Italian Pozzo family.

Watford won promotion from the Championship last season, booking a spot in the Premier League for next season and are in the process of adding to their squad in an effort to avoid instant relegation.

The Pozzo family are firm fans of Salerno's deal-making talents and his hefty contact book, which he will now put to use for Watford.

Salerno was instrumental in Leeds signing a number of players from the Italian market last summer, while he also continued the signing spree in the winter transfer window.

The challenge he will face at Watford will be significantly different as the Hornets go up against some of the richest clubs in world football.

Salerno had also been linked with a return to Italy with Palermo.
