West Ham linked midfielder Vicente Iborra has emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona.

While the Catalan giants are not allowed to buy players until next January, they have not stepped away from doing any transfer business and have continued to identify targets for the future.

According to Marca, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has requested the club hierarchy try to get Sevilla defensive midfielder Iborra, who has been in impressive form for the Andalusian club since joining them in 2013.

Schooled at Levante’s youth academy, the 27-year-old is regarded as one of the top defensive midfielders in La Liga and despite injury disruptions, Iborra played a key role in Sevilla’s Europe League winning team.

One of the most important players in Unai Emery’s squad, Iborra even captained Sevilla in a few games last term and his leadership qualities have attracted the attention of Barcelona boss Enrique.

While it is not clear whether Barcelona will make move for him this summer because of their transfer ban, the player is claimed to be one of their targets for the future.

With more than three years left on his contract, Sevilla are reluctant to lose the player but are aware that an approach by Barcelona could be hard to resist for the player.

He has also been linked with a move to the Premier League with West Ham, who are said to be looking to add some steel to their midfield.

He has made 81 appearances for Sevilla since joining the club from Levante in 2013.
