Ilkay Gundogan has dealt his suitors a blow by performing a U-turn and proposing to extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder's current contract with the Bundesliga club has just a year to run and Gundogan had informed Dortmund that he would not pen an extension, while he also wanted to be sold this summer.

It was quickly claimed that Gundogan was on the cusp of signing for Manchester United. He was also linked with Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

But according to German daily Bild am Sonntag, Gundogan has performed a dramatic U-turn.

The midfielder now wants to sign a new contract with Dortmund to extend his contract by at least one further year, something the club will readily agree to.

For Dortmund, the development will come as a big boost, especially as the club look to move on from the Jurgen Klopp era.

The Ruhr giants have Thomas Tuchel installed as their new coach and have continued to hope that Gundogan would have a change of heart and agree to stay put.

It now appears that has happened.
