Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta is banking upon his good relationship with Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola in his bid to sign the Frenchman this summer.

Pogba has been one of the hottest players on the transfer market this season, with several European heavyweights hankering for his signature.

Premier League outfit Manchester City, reigning French champions Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with a move for the Frenchman.

However, the Catalan outfit have been reported to be the front runners in their bid for the Frenchman.

Laporta, who was Barcelona president from 2003 until his departure in 2010, is in the running again for the upcoming presidential elections and has confirmed that former defender Eric Abidal will be the club’s sporting director if he wins. He feels that their good relationship with Raiola will convince Pogba to sign for the Catalan outfit.

"We feel that the key to a potential signing of Pogba is Mino Raiola, with whom we get on with very well, both Abidal and myself”, Laporta was quoted as saying by Spanish daily AS.

“We carried out negotiations with him for the deals involving Maxwell and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Abidal also knows Pogba on a personal level and if this is something that gives the supporters confidence in our project, then, we’ll talk to Juve as he would be a positive addition.

“I haven't’ spoken with the player or his club as being a pre-candidate forbids me from doing so.”
