Guus Hiddink has stepped down as Netherlands coach after taking charge in September last year following a string of poor results.

Louis van Gaal left his role as Netherlands coach after guiding the Dutch to a third-place finish in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Hiddink was appointed as his successor.

Hiddink commenced his second stint with the Dutch national side back in September 2014 and in ten matches in charge he lost five and won four.

The Dutch are currently third in their Euro 2016 qualifying group.

Last year, they were defeated 2-1 by the Czech Republic and 2-0 by minnows Iceland, who are also at the top of their group, and were handed a 1-1 draw against Turkey in March.
