Rangers defender Darren McGregor has cleared the air on the uncertainty surrounding the club’s captaincy situation.

Lee McCulloch, who was the club captain last season, was released by the Ibrox club last month and the captaincy position at the club has been lying vacant since. There has been fierce speculation over just who will wear the armband next term.

And McGregor has shed little light on the matter when asked in a press conference at Rangers’ Murray Park training centre, although he does know what manager Mark Warburton is looking for in a skipper.

“Nothing really as they [the management] said. There was a brief chat on Saturday morning with the gaffer enlightening how he wants to play and the character traits he likes.”

The 29-year-old refused to be drawn into speculation about the Gers’ next captain, and is looking forward to his manager’s decision in the future.

“We are only three days into it [pre-season]. Certainly I’m sure that would come and it would be interesting to see who he [Warburton] picks”, he added.

McGregor is a candidate for the captain’s role at Rangers after starring in his club’s disappointing 2014/15 season in the Championship.

He played 58 times for the Gers, and bagged the club Player of the Year award last season.
