Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto has revealed that his impending move to Atletico Madrid is at a “very advanced” stage, adding that he is looking forward to playing with Los Rojiblancos.

Vietto joined Villarreal last summer from Argentine outfit Racing Club and took no time to settle in a new league. Through the course of his first season in European football, the youngster returned figures of 20 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

His stellar displays saw him linked with a move away to Premier League side Liverpool.

But Atletico Madrid were always the front runners to secure the striker’s signature, with him intent on linking up with his former boss Diego Simeone.

“It is very advanced with Atletico Madrid”, Vietto was quoted as saying by AS about his negotiations with Simeone’s side.

“If nothing happens and God is willing it will be where I play next season.

“I have no idea of how it will be, I would like to continue growing and force myself each day to be better.”

Vietto had previously featured in 78 games for Racing Club prior to his La Liga switch. He has earned four caps for the Argentina Under-20 side.
