Liverpool’s academy coach Pepijn Lijnders is set for promotion into the first-team set-up at Anfield and will be in place next week, according to ITV.

The Reds are in the process of a close season overhaul of their backroom staff, after a disappointing 2014/15 season which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League.

Liverpool rid themselves of Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh from their books earlier this month, and are set to appoint new backroom staff to their first-team.

And Lijnders is expected to make the step up from the club’s academy at Kirkby to the first-team base at Melwood ahead of their pre-season which starts next week.

The 32-year-old, who was previously involved in the youth set-ups at FC Porto and PSV Eindhoven, joined the Anfield outfit as the coach of Liverpool Under-16s last year.
