Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola believes Manchester United linked Bastian Schweinsteiger will stay at the club.

The Germany captain’s future at the Allianz Arena has been a subject of speculation this summer as he has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen to sign the 30-year-old to add stardust to his Manchester United midfield for next season and is said to be preparing a bid for him.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich have made it clear that they won’t think about selling the midfielder if the player himself doesn’t ask for a move.

Bayern Munich boss Guardiola is quietly confident of holding on to the veteran Germany international but stressed that the final decision still rests with Schweinsteiger himself.

I have said that Basti is going to be here next season. His future is here”, Guardiola told a press conference this morning, quoted by Focus.

“Today, in this moment, I think 100% that he will play here this season. But he is the only one who can decide, not me or Kalle [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern Munich CEO].

“If he stays then that's perfect for me. He is a great player.”

Despite still being an important member of Guardiola’s squad, Schweinsteiger has dropped down the pecking order at the club and is no longer a certain starter.

It has been rumoured that the lure of being a certain starter at Manchester United is making the midfielder think about leaving his boyhood club ahead of next summer’s European Championship.
