Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez wants Juventus striker and Tottenham Hotspur target Fernando Llorente this summer, according to Spanish broadcaster La Sexta.

Llorente joined the Old Lady in the summer of 2013 from Spanish La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao, but last season he played second fiddle to fellow Spain international Alvaro Morata.

Through the course of his second season in Serie A, he made 45 appearances in all competitions and netted nine goals and provided four assists for his team-mates.

Benitez has taken the reins of Los Blancos after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, who ended his second season in the Spanish league without major silverware, which ultimately cost him his job.

As the former Liverpool boss prepares his team to get them back amongst the trophies, he wants to add Llorente to his ranks before the 2015/16 season kicks off.

Real Madrid had Javier Hernandez on a season-long loan from Manchester United and had an option to make the move permanent, but he was sent back to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

If Llorente’s move goes through, he will likely act as a backup for first choice striker Karim Benzema.

Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have also been keen on the Spain international as they bid to strengthen their side for the 2015/16 campaign.
