Chelsea have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Monaco to sign striker Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan deal.

Falcao spent last term on loan at Manchester United, but scored just four goals for the Red Devils and the Old Trafford outfit opted not to keep him on a permanent basis.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho believes he can revitalise Falcao's career and succeed where Louis van Gaal failed, and the Blues have moved quickly to take him from Monaco.

The Colombian will spend the entire 2015/16 campaign at Stamford Bridge, aiming to help Chelsea defend their Premier League title.

Falcao is delighted with the move and told Chelsea's site: "I am very happy to be joining Chelsea and can't wait to start training and help with our aim of retaining the league title and being successful in Europe."

Falcao's move to Chelsea means he will play in the Champions League next season, experiencing a competition he missed out on at Monaco and Manchester United.

He links up with three former Atletico Madrid team-mates with the Blues, in the shape of Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa.

Monaco were keen to offload Falcao's substantial wages this summer.
