David de Gea has confirmed that he will be heading back to Manchester United for pre-season training, despite speculation of a move to Real Madrid.

He has only a single year left on his contract with the Red Devils and has resisted putting pen to paper amid suggestions he is desperate to return to his homeland with Los Blancos.

But Real Madrid have not as yet been able to find any agreement with the Red Devils and De Gea has confirmed he will indeed begin pre-season training with Louis van Gaal's men.

De Gea was asked about Real Madrid by Spanish TV channel Cuatro and replied: "I have to return to Manchester for pre-season."

He refused to answer any other questions relating to his future and a possible move to Real Madrid.
