Real Madrid custodian Keylor Navas has insisted that he is relaxed about the potential competition that he would face with the arrival of David de Gea from Manchester United.

The Costa Rican international played second fiddle to Iker Casillas at the Santiago Bernabeu last season, with his La Liga appearances being limited to just six.

And now with the Manchester United Players' Player of the Year all poised to make a switch to Madrid in the current transfer window, Navas knows well that the competition is going to get tougher.

However, the 28-year-old accepts it as part and parcel of what he does and insists that he is absolutely relaxed about it.

Navas though was quick to clarify that De Gea's arrival won't mean that he will stop trying and insists that he will continue doing everything he can to secure a first team place for Real Madrid.

"I’m relaxed about it – I’m always going to have to compete with whoever I have at my side", Navas told Spanish daily AS.

"Of course I’ll defend my ground and I will fight with everything I’ve got to win a first choice place in the side – that is what I have wanted for a long time.

"I’ll keep battling to realise my dreams."

On De Gea, Navas said that the 24-year-old is an excellent goalkeeper and deserves all the plaudits he has been getting.

"He’s a great keeper – an excellent keeper. He’s done really well at Manchester United and he is a goalkeeper who deserves respect – as we all do."
