West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has heaped praise on his team’s latest acquisition, Dimitri Payet from Marseille.

The France international enjoyed a successful season under manager Marcelo Bielsa at the Stade Velodrome as he contributed seven league goals and 21 assists for Les Phoceens to help them finish fourth in the final league standings.

Bilic, who has been given the reins of the Hammers following the departure of Sam Allardyce after a disappointing end to last season, has lauded the France international for the quality he brings to Upton Park.

“He is a great player and did really well at a big club like Marseille”, the former Croatia international told his club’s site.

The 46-year-old further added that he personally wanted Payet in his ranks and is happy to be able to call upon his services as he prepares the team for the coming season.
