Bayern Munich defender Rafinha is delighted with the arrival of his compatriot Douglas Costa at the Allianz Arena, but feels that the 24-year-old will need to adapt himself in order to fit into the Bavarian outfit.

Costa has arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk, having spent five seasons in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Last season, the Brazilian contributed five goals and seven assists to Shakhtar Donetsk’s cause as they finished second in the league standings and reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

And Rafinha is delighted to have his compatriot sign for Bayern Munich this summer.

“I’m delighted we’ve signed another Brazilian, but the coach decides who plays where”, the right-back told his club’s site in an interview.

However, the 29-year-old further added that the Bundesliga is a big upgrade from the Ukrainian top flight and Costa will need to significantly raise his game in order to quickly settle in his new team and the new league.

“Douglas Costa is a quality player, but with all due respect to the Ukrainian league and Shakhtar, FC Bayern is a different world, and Bundesliga opponents are better, more dynamic, more physical and quicker.

“He’ll spot that straight away.

“We’ll certainly have to give him time to settle in.”

Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title for the last three seasons in succession and they will be looking for their fourth consecutive title when the new season kicks off.
