AC Milan are set to step up on their interest in Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

The 20-year-old defender’s future at the Stadio Olimpico has been a subject of speculation over the last few days as the Rossoneri are said to be keen to get their hands on the youngster this summer.

While Roma were hoping that their asking price of €30m would scare the Italian giants, AC Milan are claimed to be ready to step up on their efforts to take Romagnoli to the San Siro.

New AC Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic is keen to sign the young defender and according to La Stampa, the Rossoneri are preparing a bid for the player.

Their proposed offer is claimed to be close to the figure that Roma are asking for the defender and the Milanese giants are hopeful of getting the deal done for the Italian Under-21 international.

However, the Rossoneri might face stiff competition from Arsenal for the defender’s signature as the Gunners have already enquired about his availability this summer.

Romagnoli is a highly rated talent in Italian football and was impressive during his loan spell at Sampdoria last season.

His contract with Roma runs until the summer of 2018.
