Liverpool are in strong pursuit of Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez in a bid to acquire him this summer, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Pedro struggled for first team action last season, with the trio of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi ahead of him in the Barcelona forward line.

Over the course of the 2014/15 league season, Pedro was reduced to a mere 15 starts as the Catalans won La Liga ahead of Real Madrid.

The Canarian has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou this summer, with several clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Liverpool being the clubs most talked about in his pursuit.

Pedro, who recently signed an extension on his contract until the summer of 2019 with a release clause of 150m, has acknowledged that his buy-out price has been reduced to 30m.

Liverpool have acquired a substantial sum of money following their sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City and are in a position to afford the Canarian.

And Brendan Rodgers' side are in a position to pay Barcelona's valuation of the forward as they bid to prise him away to Anfield this summer.

Chelsea, led by Jose Mourinho, are reportedly not in a mood to meet Pedro’s release clause, considering it well above their valuation.
