Atletico Madrid have confirmed the purchase of Jackson Martinez from FC Porto and have tied him to a four-year deal.

Martinez was one of the hot properties on the transfer market this summer and was linked with several clubs, including AC Milan and Arsenal.




But the Spanish outfit have acquired the prolific marksman’s signature after paying his buy-out clause to Porto.

A statement released on the Atletico Madrid website confirmed the acquisition.
 


“Atletico de Madrid and Porto have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jackson Martinez to our club. The Colombian striker will sign his contract as an Atletico for the next four seasons.”

Sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero expressed his delight with his club’s latest purchase.

“We are very pleased with the agreement, because Jackson Martinez is an extraordinary striker, able to rapidly solve any attacking play inside the box.”

Los Rojiblancos sold Mario Mandzukic to Juventus earlier this summer and Martinez will look to fill the void left by the Croatia international’s departure.

Diego Simeone’s side have also added Luciano Vietto and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco to their ranks as they look consolidate their squad and wrest back the league title from Barcelona in the coming season.

During his time at Porto, Martinez notched 92 goals and 14 assists from 133 appearances for the Portuguese club.
