Fiorentina are eyeing a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches this summer.

The Romanian centre half arrived in north London from Steaua Bucharest in 2013, but has so far failed to carve out a regular spot in the first eleven at White Hart Lane.

Chiriches was heavily linked with a move to Italy during the winter transfer window, but he stayed put. However, he continued to remain a peripheral figure at the club.

Fiorentina are interested in signing the 25-year-old this summer and according to Sky Italia, they have opened talks with Tottenham to get a deal done for the defender.

Current La Viola coach Paulo Sousa is claimed to be a big fan of Chiriches and did try to sign the defender when he was managing FC Basel.

However, the deal could be tricky as Fiorentina are keen to sign him on an initial loan deal, but Tottenham are only interested in selling the defender this summer.

Fiorentina though are confident that they will be able reach an agreement with Tottenham and talks between the two clubs are expected to continue for the next few days.

Chiriches still has three years left on his contract with the Premier League outfit.
