Ronny Deila has blasted the artificial playing surface his Celtic team played on this evening, as they beat Icelandic side Stjarnan 6-1 on aggregate in their Champions League second qualifying round tie.

Celtic were shocked after just seven minutes when Stjarnan took the lead, Olafur Karl Finson finding space to fire the ball past Craig Gordon.

The Scottish champions had a chance to draw level just minutes later, but Nadir Ciftci's shot was wasteful, sailing high and wide of the goal.

The Bhoys did level in the 33rd minute when Nir Bitton got on the end of a Stefan Johansen corner to head Celtic to a 1-1 scoreline.

And after the break Stjarnan were killed off when Charlie Mulgrew struck (49th minute) to make it 2-1 to the visitors on the night and 4-1 on aggregate.

Celtic then put the icing on the cake when Leigh Griffiths found the back of the net two minutes from time, something followed up by a Johansen goal in injury time to make it 4-1.

For Deila, while the performance was good, the pitch was difficult to play on as it was very dry.

"It was a little difficult start, it was a tough pitch to play on, it was so dry", he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"I think we were better in the second half than the first half and we won comfortably in the end.

"It should never be allowed to play on artificial without watering the pitch. Every pitch should be watered."
