Aston Villa and Watford have joined the chase for the signature of Leeds United linked forward Felipe Avenatti.

Cagliari were believed to be close to signing the 22-year-old forward, but it seems they might have to compete with Premier League clubs to win the race now.

Championship side Leeds were already interested in the player, but it emerged earlier this week that the Uruguayan is also attracting prying eyes from the Premier League.

And according to Il Corriere dell'Umbria, Aston Villa and Premier League new boys Watford are keen to get their hands on the Ternana forward this summer.

Avenatti scored eleven goals last season in Serie B but that was enough to attract the attention of the Premier League sides, who are said to have extensively scouted the Uruguayan forward.

With interest from the Premier League, Leeds and Cagliari are expected to find it hard to convince Avenatti to consider a switch to the second tier of English and Italian football respectively.

The forward joined Ternana from Uruguayan side River Plate in 2013 and has scored 15 goals for the club.

He still has two years left on his contract with the club.
