Roma are taking Wojciech Szczesny on loan from Arsenal after baulking at the asking price for a permanent deal slapped on the goalkeeper's head by the Gunners.

Szczesny has slipped well down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, a situation exacerbated by the Gunners' signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea earlier this summer.

Now Roma are pouncing and the Poland international is on his way to the Serie A club on a season-long loan deal.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Roma were quoted €12m to sign Szczesny on an outright basis this summer, but backed off as they are reluctant to spend such a sum.

Instead the shot-stopper will arrive in the Italian capital on a season-long loan deal, which should hand him the chance to play regular first team football in 2015/16.

Roma meanwhile are continuing to work on a deal for Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah.

According to Italian daily Il Messaggero, Roma have offered Chelsea a fee of €2m to take Salah on loan for next season.

And should they wish to sign him permanently, Chelsea would receive a further €21m.
