Louis van Gaal has been left in limbo after Angel di Maria did not join up with the Manchester United squad as planned.

Di Maria has been on an extended summer break due to his exertions in the Copa America in Chile, but was due to link up with his Manchester United team-mates yesterday in San Jose.

But the winger, who it has been claimed in France that Paris Saint-Germain have an agreement to sign from Manchester United, has not shown up in the United States.

Van Gaal was quoted as saying by his club's site: "I have heard that he is not on the plane so I cannot say anything.

"He was not on the plane, and Marcos Rojo was also not on the plane. He has passport issues, that I do know. But Di Maria, I do not know why", the Dutchman continued.

One player who has arrived back at the Manchester United camp after his summer action is striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexico international spent last season on loan at Spanish giants Real Madrid, but they have not chosen to activate a clause to keep him on a permanent basis, meaning he has returned to Manchester United ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Di Maria's unauthorised absence is likely to further increase speculation he is about to quit the Red Devils for PSG, with the French side claimed to be all but done in agreeing a deal with Manchester United.
