Ambitious Italian club Carpi want to sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool and are waiting to hear back from the Premier League giants.

Liverpool are looking to offload Borini this summer and he has been linked with a number of clubs, including Real Sociedad and Lazio.

But the former Roma forward is still at Anfield and has not exited the club he joined in 2012 yet, meaning Carpi have spied an opportunity.

According to Sky Italia, the newly promoted Serie A club have contacted Liverpool to register their interest in Borini and are now waiting for a response from the Merseyside giants.

The move is an ambitious one from the team who were plying their trade in Serie B last season, especially given the prospective competition for Borini's signature.

But Carpi are determined to make an attempt to sign the forward and know were they to succeed the transfer would be seen as a big coup for the club.

It remains to be seen however whether Borini is open to the idea of what may prove to be a season in Serie A's lower reaches with Carpi.

He is however surplus to requirements at Anfield, having been pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Christian Benteke.
