Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Cordoba for defender Jose Angel Crespo for his transfer this summer.

Crespo was part of the Cordoba first team last season as they failed in their attempt to stave off relegation to the second division after a solitary season in the Spanish top flight following their promotion in the 2013/14 campaign.

The defender will travel to England for a medical on Monday before he completes the signing with the Villans.

Last season, the centre-back made 29 appearances across La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Aston Villa have sold Christian Benteke to Liverpool and Fabian Delph to Manchester City this summer and are eager to strengthen their ranks for the 2015/16 season.

They have already acquired defenders Jordan Amavi from Nice and Micah Richards from fellow Premier League side Manchester City and Crespo’s addition will give Tim Sherwood another option in defence.

The Villans struggled with relegation last term and after the sacking of Paul Lambert, Sherwood was brought in to steer them clear of a Championship drop.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss succeeded in his endeavour and guided the West Midlands outfit to a 17th placed finish. He will be eager to improve upon that in the coming season.
