A contract extension for Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid, to ward off interest from Manchester United, is now firmly on the cards following a meeting held in China.

Real Madrid are currently in China on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia and president Florentino Perez has joined the group, with a meeting with Ramos the first item on his agenda.

Ramos' brother, Rene, flew out to China for the meeting in a sign of the player's willingness to break the deadlock with Los Blancos.

According to Madrid-based daily Marca, on Real Madrid's side of the table sat Perez and CEO Jose Angel Sanchez, with Ramos and his brother on the other side of the table.

The talks were positive and now the door is wide open for a new contract for the defender to keep him at the Bernabeu, leading to the episode being dubbed the Guangzhou Peace.

Ramos did not mince his words with the Real Madrid hierarchy and explained he was upset at leaks from the club which he felt had cast him and his brother in a bad light.

However, the centre-back also stressed his desire to remain with Real Madrid until his retirement, though he was not willing to see his reputation slide continually as had happened to Iker Casillas before his departure this summer.

Both sides left the meeting confident relations between them had been improved and now Real Madrid are expected to press the accelerator on a new contract for Ramos, something which is sure to disappoint Manchester United.
