Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has officially joined MLS side Montreal Impact, subject to receiving a Canadian work permit.

The Canada-based side have not released the details of the deal, but Drogba becomes the latest ageing big name to make the move to the MLS, following Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Kaka, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.

Montreal Impact have been quick to welcome the signing of the 37-year-old, who won the Premier League title with Chelsea last term and dubbed his arrival one of the biggest days in their club's history to date.

The Canadian club's president Joey Saputo told his club's site: "It’s an honour to welcome Didier Drogba to the Impact.

"“From the first conversation I had with him, I felt that he really wanted to play in Montreal", the Impact supremo continued.

"This is one of the biggest days in club history and his arrival to the club will be beneficial in every aspect."

Drogba, who won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League with Chelsea, becomes a Designated Player at Montreal Impact.

The 37-year-old opted not to remain at Chelsea after the end of last season, explaining he wanted to play regular first team football for one further season before hanging up his boots.

It remains to be seen whether Drogba does only remain with Montreal Impact for a single campaign or chooses to extend his career beyond the current 2015 MLS season.
