Manchester United new boy Sergio Romero has revealed that he looks upon manager Louis van Gaal as a person who helped to kick-off his career and someone who has been a vital part of his life.

Romero, who was snapped up by the Red Devils late on Sunday night, amidst uncertainty over the future of current number one David de Gea and the imminent departure of Victor Valdes, insists that playing under the Dutch manager yet again is a dream come true.

It was in fact under Van Gaal that the Argentine goalkeeper flourished at AZ Alkmaar, managing a total of 90 league appearances over the course of four seasons.

According to the 28-year-old, the Dutchman is a manager who puts a player at ease from the very beginning. That was what happened to him when he was signed by Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar in 2007, he says.

It was in fact the most vital moment of Romero's career as he himself feels he never had to look back after that. The 63-year-old manager therefore is an important influence in Romero's life and the chance to be reunited with him excites him more than anything else.

"He is a great manager", Romero said while answering to questions posed by MUTV.

"He’s the kind of boss who puts you at ease and from the first moment that I was given the goalkeeper shirt by him in 2007, he told me that I would play an important part in his squad.

"It was a vital period for me because from the moment I signed for him, my career started to really take off. He is someone who has been very important in my life.

"He helped me a lot when I arrived in Holland as I didn’t speak Dutch and I didn’t speak English but he spoke Spanish.

"He is very honest and open as a person, he helps and reassures you and he cares about every player and every member of staff."
