Manchester United legend Bryan Robson thinks that despite the Red Devils making a series of impressive signings this summer they are still behind Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.

Chelsea eased to the title under Jose Mourinho last season, with Manchester City finishing second and Arsenal third, as Manchester United trailed in fourth, well off putting together a realistic challenge.

This summer Louis van Gaal has brought in Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero to bolster his squad. But for Robson, the Red Devils are still a little behind their three title rivals.

That does not mean though that they cannot win the league, he stressed, especially with a midfield with which he is hugely impressed.

"I think we have a chance but at this moment in time I have to say I still think Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal might be slightly ahead", he said in a Manchester United Facebook Q&A session.

"We might make more signings and strengthen that bit more, but I do think the manager has really upped the quality in the midfield.

"I think we could be really dominant in that midfield area.

"It gives us an outside chance and that’s all you need. If you get off to a good start and if confidence is up then you just never know", the former Manchester United captain added.

Van Gaal's men have been in good form on their pre-season tour of the United States so far this summer, winning all three games they have played, against Club America, San Jose Earthquakes and most recently, Barcelona.

Their final match on tour is against French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
