Ex-Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby attracted interest from Premier League giants Liverpool before he moved to France with Marseille, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The 29-year-old, who sealed his return to France yesterday by agreeing to move to the Stade Velodrome, is reported to have fielded interest from Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Liverpool over the summer.

The midfielder, who spent ten injury-ravaged seasons at Arsenal, rebuffed an approach from West Bromwich Albion having been impressed by Marseille and their facilities.

Diaby, who even underwent a medical check with the Baggies, personally told them of his decision to join the French outfit.

The French international, who has 16 caps for his national team, played a total of 180 games for the Gunners before he was released by the north London club this summer.
