Real Madrid are set to step up on their interest in signing David de Gea from Manchester United, according to Madrid-based daily Marca, by reopening talks for the goalkeeper.

Manchester United have been maintaining a stubborn stance on De Gea and will only allow him to leave on their own terms.

With Sergio Ramos looking likely to stay at Real Madrid, the Spanish giants are now confident that they will be able to agree a deal with Manchester United for the shot-stopper.

Louis van Gaal was hoping to see Ramos move to Old Trafford as part of De Gea’s move to Real Madrid but with that option looking increasingly unlikely, Los Blancos are set to press the accelerator to secure the 24-year-old Spaniard.

Manchester United have said to have slapped a €40m asking price on De Gea, a figure Real Madrid have been so far unwilling to pay for a player whose contract is set to expire at the end of next season.

The Red Devils are prepared to lose him for free next summer, but won’t allow the goalkeeper to move to Real Madrid without securing the best deal possible.

Van Gaal stated his intention to keep De Gea at Old Trafford by starting him against Barcelona last weekend and the Spaniard could also line-up in their opening game of the season against Tottenham on 8th August.

On the other hand, Ramos is reportedly still considering a move to Manchester United and the saga involving the two Spaniards could stretch into the last days of the transfer window.
