Lazio have asked about Mario Balotelli's availability with his agent Mino Raiola ahead of a possible loan swoop for the striker.

Balotelli appears surplus to requirements at Liverpool and was left out of the club's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia earlier this summer.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has challenged Balotelli to show he wants a future at Anfield, but the striker continues to be linked with a move away from Merseyside.

According to Italian daily La Repubblica, Lazio brought up the issue of Balotelli when Raiola was in Italy to complete the transfer of his client Ricardo Krishna to the Rome outfit.

The 20-year-old completed his move from Ajax to Lazio and the Serie A club then spoke with Raiola about Balotelli's situation at Liverpool.

Lazio are thinking along the lines of taking Balotelli on loan for the season, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be open to such an arrangement.

Rodgers spent £16m to sign Balotelli from AC Milan last summer as he looked to replace Luis Suarez.

The Italian has struggled badly under the Northern Irishman though and failed to make an impact.
