Napoli have officially confirmed the signing of Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

The Serie A side are thought to have paid a fee of around €4.5m for the former Steaua Bucharest man, who arrives to bolster coach Maurizio Sarri's options in defence ahead of the new Italian season.

Chiriches was deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino and is now aiming to rebound in Italy with Napoli.

Spurs snapped up the Romania international from Steaua Bucharest in 2013, but he struggled to make an impact in England.

Chiriches found nailing down a regular starting spot to be an impossible task and will hope for better luck at Napoli in the forthcoming campaign.
