Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to be drawn on a fresh attempt to sign defender John Stones from Everton.

The Blues have already seen one bid rebuffed by the Toffees, while it has been suggested they have also failed again in an attempt to take the England international to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho was tackled at a press conference today about the situation surrounding Stones and whether he will make another move for the former Barnsley man. But the Portuguese insists he does not want to discuss players currently at other clubs.

"No", Mourinho replied when asked to confirm he has had a further bid turned down for Stones.

"I don't speak about players from other clubs, especially now when the competition starts", he added.

Mourinho was also questioned about signing another left-back given Filipe Luis has been sold to Atletico Madrid after one season at the club.

And he was ready to confirm that the Blues are working to add another left-back to their squad, even if he was not willing to name names.

"Yes [we’re trying to sign a left-back].

"We try. We only have one [left-back]. We are trying."
